Short lived

Isa:9:1
Nevertheless that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever.

Darkness too is short lasting. It looks scary. It might seem to go on forever. But the moment a streak of light comes, darkness disappears.
So is lie. The moment it is exposed, lie vanishes. Truth always triumphs over lie.
So is despair. It might seem unending. But the moment the peace that comes from above over rules it; it disappears.
The issue with problems and disappointments is this. It might seem unending and eternal. But the truth is, it is short lived like the mayflies. God triumphs.

May be you are going through the toughest times of your life. Hope looks far away. The glimmer looks unlikely. But know that it is just a passing phase. This is temporary. This time of darkness will not go on forever. This too will pass and the Lord will heal.

The greatest hope we have is the deliverance from the yoke of sin, by the gruesome death my God sufferred on the cross. That yoke of slavery is broken. All we could do was to succumb. But now He has given the ability to resist and say no and walk in freedom.

If that is dealt with, will He not take care of my other needs? And so if He has taken care of our eternal future, will He not take care of our present future? Our sicknesses, our needs, our pains and aches might look scary. But just rest.

2 Cor:4:17 For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever.
So we don't look at the troubles we can see now, rather we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

For you

They began to spit ------ Beat him with their fists ----- Some slapped him, jeering Matt:26:67-68 It would be humiliating to be spat upon the face. His face would have been fully red out of bruise. A racoon eye probably. It is menial to be made fun off - more menial when people make fun of you disbelieving what you claim or what you really are. Matt:27:26 Jesus was flogged with a lead tipped whip  Skin might have shredded to pieces, pieces of muscles torn away, splurting blood everywhere. Pain unable to be described in words. Psalm:129:3 The plowers plowed upon my back. Hematomas everywhere. Anaemic because of the blood loss. Internal organs lacerated. Excruciating pain from the tip of the hair to the toe. Dehydrated. Stinking. Stripped naked and made to walk through the streets in front of the ones you loved, the ones who loved you. Thorns on His brow. Nails driven through the median nerve. Struggling to breath hanging on the cross. He has to pull Himself up to expand ...

Not my will, but yours - a poem

Yes, Jesus was distressed and anguished too He was also grieved to the point of death So it is okay, dear one to be frustrated  It might not be as grievous as that of Jesus, but it's fine. But how Jesus handled, that is a lesson for us He did not over react. He did not brood over. He did not vent it over. He did not blame Himself He just prayed - not my will, but yours. How you handle your stress makes you stronger and bolder Either you succumb and grow weaker But face it in faith, and you will grow stronger. Equipping you to face the next one. Ultimate purpose is to be transformed into His likeness Live as Jesus lived. Do as Jesus did. Here how did He handle stress and anguish? Not my will, but yours He prayed. Woe #1

Matt:23:13-14 The first of the seven woes that Jesus tells about the teachers of the law. You shut the door of the kingdom of Heaven in people's faces. Are you a stumbling block for a seeker? Because of the habits and rituals you follow.  Are you malleable? Teachable? Are you willing to change? Are you willing to unlearn? Because if you stick on to that you might be discouraging another person who wants to come to Christ. When we had the privilege to visit the Holy Land, in the very place of Golgotha there were priests who were custodians of the place, from different Christian denominations like - the Greek Orthodox, Catholic, Armenian, Coptic, Syrian Orthodox and Ethiopian Orthodox. The rush was too heavy. But the arrogance and rudeness of these priests was even more difficult to handle and disheartening. At the very place where their Saviour was tortured to death by the religious leaders, for their own sins, these representations of the 'Christian' church want...

Endure

Matt:24:13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. Though Jesus says this immensely positive and hopeful statement with relation to eschatology and about tribulation saints, it is something we the pretribulation saints should always remember  Whether you believe in premillenialism, amillenialism or postmillenialism, this statement of Jesus always holds true. And faith is extremely quintessential to endure. Hope is something that comes out of your faith that enables you to endure. Hard times will come, testing times will come. Persections will come, earthquakes and war will come, sicknesses will come, problems in relationship will come, unexpected setbacks will come. But endure till the end. Hold fast. Do not worry for I am with you is His promise. And He will be with you. He will give you strength to endure. For endurance as I said is a hopeful word. It is not based on any eutopian idea. But it is based on the fact that God is living and true. He said He has p...

Woe # 3

Matt:23:16-22 The third woe is against those who are deeply ritualistic. So much so that, they think and teach, that, that is the only way to heaven.  Swearing by substances in the Temple (where Jesus had already said, let your yes be yes and no be no), ie considering the inanimate substances with high religiosity and piety. Jesus asks, How blind! Which is more important - the gift on the altar or the altar that makes the gift sacred? What things do you consider as sacraments? As a young boy, I used to believe that participating in the Lord's table in itself would make you holy. And therefore I used to meticulously part take in it every week. Not just things. Habits too. Praying can be ritualistic, when you pray with a cold heart. Or you utter a prayer repeatedly. Taking your quiet time can be ritualistic too. When you didn't get time one day, would you quickly read one verse and rush? Fearing some harm, if you hadn't? Being part of the church activities, even o...

Woe # 4

Matt:23:24 You strain your water so you won't accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel. Jesus had a good sense of humour. But it hits you right on the head.  You are strict on the smaller things, peripheral things. But fail to practise the core things. He brings contrast between tithing and justice and mercy and faith. What good is it if you tithe regularly but fail to show mercy and justice and practise faith. For He looks into the heart; the attitude and not your hands; the doings. He very plainly says - do not neglect the more important things.  If you do - woe unto you. Coming back

Matt:24:37-51 When the Son of Man returns In those days When the Son of Man comes The Lord is coming The Son of Man will come If the Master returns and finds The Master will put The Master will return unannounced and unexpected  The owner of the whole universe, the Master, has Himself announced that He is one day coming back again. To reclaim. To reward. It is foolish to think He is not. It is utterly foolish to think there is no such master. It is foolish to sit unprepared. Because Jesus Himself has said that He is coming back. There is no ifs there. The only if that we find here is that - if the Master finds... Coming is certain. When you see earthquakes, when you see wars, when you see false Messiahs and false prophets, be assured that He is coming back.   These are signs that His coming back is near. Whether you believe it or not. Whether you want to accept it or not. Reinstate with Him, while there is yet time. Before it is too late. Image credit: https:/...
