What should I do to inherit eternal life? Luke:18:18 The desire of the rich man was genuine and from the heart. Jesus' answer to him was two fold yet to the point. First - the core. The principle. The Law which paints before you the heart of God. The standard of God. It shows the holiness of God. Very difficult to fulfill it. Second - the culmination. The summary of the Law as told by Jesus Himself. To love the Lord with all your heart mind and soul. Above everything else. To give up everything else for the sake of God. To fulfil this and reach unto God is impossible. For there is a great drift between the holiness of God and the fallenness of man. The rich man like most of us was focussed on the doing than the being, to inherit eternal life.  Jesus was infact saying, there is nothing that you can do and then go and claim eternal life. Right on the face of hell and it's master.  Puny man has no strength to ask this, face to face with the mighty, yet fallen angelic being. Man is tiny, but he is fiersome, terrifying, huge.  But now one man can ask, who has Jesus in him. The King of Kings, the Lord of Lords in him. Through Him, he can ask.  Because He who has conquered the grave, through His death and resurrection, because of that he who has Jesus in him can ask - Death, I do not fear you. I have passed on from death to life. Now there is no fear, no condemnation. You do not have victory over me. Nor your sting would work for me. Beautiful Jerusalem stands abandoned Isa:1:8 What riches were promised? Eternal life is nothing less than perfection. Because it was promised by a perfect Father to His children. Knowing the Father and thr Son is eternal life and that is nothing short of the abundant rich life. Life in its fullness. And eternal life is not something you would be going to inherit. It is already yours.  Not struggling with sin; but a victorious living. Not a life dwindled with emotions and feelings. But a life established in faith; focussed on God's face.
