Ruth:3
Boaz has got the opportunity of his life to have Ruth as his own. A time alone with her in the night, when no one knows. He could have done anything to her. But he knew, that was not solely important. Ruth's request to redeem her, again was something he was expected to do. But he is not hasty. There was another family member who could redeem her, a closer relative than him. Ruth's loyalty and virtuosity was something which he had high regard of. And his conversation with her again and again depicts of his love to her.
Self controlled yet filled with love.
Wanting to have her as his own, yet willing to wait.
In this world, love is often translated as owning. If I love or like something, I should want it.
I like a car, I spend money to own it.
If you like a girl, you want to have her as your own.
I like ice cream, I want to eat it.
Liking or loving has been linked to owning or having as my own. It is solely because of my self love. I do everything to have it as my own.
Take any relation in this world, it's so marred and filled with self love.
When a boy tells a girl, if I do not get you, I'll make sure no one else gets you. The news is filled with acid attacks and lighting fire and the like. Children killing or torturing their unwanted aged parents. Unwanted children being abused. Rapes and murders and boundary disputes are all a result of wanting for my own. All filled with so much of self love. Even suicides are a result of love selfish, saying "I" do not want to live.
I am not judging anyone. I feel despondent seeing mankind's plight.
But there was (is) a man who is different. Somone better than Boaz. Jesus Christ.
Rom:5:8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners
Eph:5:25 Christ loved the church and gave himself up for us.
So selfless, so unloving to self that He was willing to give His divine privileges to redeem me, to regain me (Phil:2:6,7)
In eternity we all will be having glorified bodies. Only one person will be roaming around with scars all over.
Those scars are a proof of His selfless love. That He considered us higher than having those scars and going through those sufferings.
There is no love as complete as His
There is no selfless love as satisfying as His
For He is the epitome of selfless love.
He is love.
