A sudden twist in the plot. A chosen nation almost about to set foot on the land that is promised to them, on the verge of setting their foot ashore, desires let's choose a new leader and go back to Egypt.
Almost set foot. Almost claimed.
But wanting to lose it for Egypt, a place they were suffering.
And this act so much hurt God. He describes it with such pain - that they were treating Him with contempt.
Any act of doubt or distrust is treating God with contempt. Any act of mistrust resulting in disobedience to God is treating Him with contempt. Any lack of belief in God is treating Him with contempt.
And contempt is a very strong word - Treating somebody as worthless.
When God says something we have to believe it. We have to just trust that God will take care. That God is enough to take care of all consequences. No descendants of Anak will be able to defeat us.
Just trust and obey. If not we are actually considering Him and His promises as worthless.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
