Gen 28
God promises greater things to Jacob. But he is focussed on temporal things.
V:20 If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear, so that I will return safely to my father's house, then the Lord will be my God.
Abraham also was so much focussed on having a son, when God promised him - I am your very great reward.
Eliezer the servant also prayed for temporary blessings.
But on all these instances, we do not see God condemning them, deeming them narrow minded asking them to focus on things eternal. In fact He grants them all their wishes. Ask your heart's desire; like to your father. It is upto him to grant it. He will never corner you saying you are narrow minded. Just ask. A "yes" or a "no" or a "wait" will surely come as an answer.
But do not forget the big picture of how He wants to bless you. His only relevant and lasting and eternal blessing is the knowledge of Himself which He wants to reveal to you.
Without eternal blessings, the temporary ones are useless.
Abraham asks, "Lord what good are all your blessings when I don't have a son?"
The more significant question is what good are all these temporary blessings, if the eternal blessing is not there.
Where is you focus? Being blessed in this world vs being filled with the knowledge of God, being filled with the presence of the Father althroughout your life, being led by Christ Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit?
Thank u Amitcha. Very helpful
