Jehu, the next king of Israel, obeyed whatever the Lord had asked him to do. Everything. Killed the entire dynasty of Ahab, including King Joram. He killed Jezebel the wicked queen. He killed Ahaziah the bad king of Judah. He killed all the prophets of Baal.
But ultimately what is the one liner about him? 2Kings:10:31 But Jehu did not obey the Law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam had led Israel to commit.
Doing so much for the Lord; yet his heart was far away from God. His hands did so much the Lord commanded, but his heart was far away.
Oh! Had he loved the Lord wholeheartedly?
Do we selectively obey? Do we find ourselves willing to obey few things and unwilling to obey few?
May be minor things we are willing to obey. What about the majors?
Some of us master in the majors and struggles when it comes to smaller ones.
Assuredly it is because I am not able to love Him with all my heart. Let us translate this to a boy who is madly in love with a girl. How will we know whether his love is genuine? If he backs off every bad thing in his life because he loves her! Everything that she dislikes. His willingness to forgo everything she doesn't like or approve shows the depth of his love to her, even if it is very dear to him.
Will we be able to love Him like that, forsaking even the things which is most dear to us. If it is an abhorrence to Him?
Wholehearted love reflects on complete obedience.
