Hos:6:1
Come let us return to the Lord
He has torn us to pieces
Now He will heal us
He has injured us
Now He will bandage our wounds.
The Lord in His Sovereignty has allowed hardships. Not that He tempts you. But He allows these troubles come by, so that your faith is tested, your endurance will grow.
But also remember, as He allows these wounds, He will bandage us and heal us. He takes the initiative to touch us and relieve us and restore us. Like Job, let us also testify - for though He wounds; He also bandages. He strikes, but His hands also heal (5:18)
But why does He do this cycle? Why wound and then heal? Why tear and then mend yet again? Rather than the expected easy way of protection right throughout?
The answer is in v:3 - Oh that we might know the Lord. Let us press on to know Him. Difficulties are means to know God more. Know Him personally in depth. His character. His being.
Without hardships, there is no helplessness and without helplessness there is no faith or trust. If everything goes well, man takes it for granted. He will be complacent. Only if we go through these tough times, will we press on to know Him more.
Therefore the first verse becomes more relevant. Let us return to the Lord.
Isa:30:15
Only in returning to me
And resting in me will you be saved
In quietness and confidence is your strength.
