“When he sits on the throne as king, he must copy for himself this body of instruction on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. He must always keep that copy with him and read it daily as long as he lives. That way he will learn to fear the Lord his God by obeying all the terms of these instructions and decrees. This regular reading will prevent him from becoming proud and acting as if he is above his fellow citizens. It will also prevent him from turning away from these commands in the smallest way. And it will ensure that he and his descendants will reign for many generations in Israel.
Deuteronomy 17:18-20
Though these were the instructions given to the king of Israel, it is equally relevant and pertinent to us, common man. To have a regular time with God is so imperative in our daily living.
To fear the Lord
To obey His decrees
To keep ourselves from being proud
To remind us of His statutes
How astute are we dear ones to hear from our Lord on a daily basis? What prevents us?
Laziness? Sleep and comforts? Busyness of life?
Do we realize the gravity for the need of spening our time with God on a regular basis?
Jesus as the Son of God would want to do it.
Peter realised it - in You are the words of wisdom
You might have umpteen no. of genuine excuses, but nothing is as relevant. Because the word is one thing which sustains you.
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
May God enable.
