First give the Lord His share

After the battle with the Midianites, while dividing the plunder amongst them, it was instructed to Moses and Eleazar to tell the Israelites to first give the Lord His share of the plunder.
Does God need money? Isn't the whole world His? Why should you give money to the church? People will misuse it.
It is an instruction that the Lord has given. To give His share- though the earth is fully His.

1 Cor:4:7 What do you have that God hasn't given you?
So giving is not making your church look richer. Giving is not making your temple more magnificent and pompous and gaudy. Giving is out of gratitude of what you have received. Out of indebtness of what you have received you give, be it for the needy or for the spread of the Word. That's why Jesus said the widow had put in more. With an attitude of gratitude she gave.
When we think of giving we often constrain ourselves in thinking of money alone. Equally important (or even more I would say) is TIME.
What is the fraction of time in a day you spend with Him? Half an hour I found out is 2% or 1 in 50 of the everyday time I've got. Sometimes we rush through our quiet times in want of time. I have even done my quiet time standing in less than a minute (even skippped certain days) because I was late. How often have I conveniently skipped my talking to God?
We have made it a ritual. We have time for everything else.
We forsake our sleep for watching a movie, but not for prayer.
And then wake up late with groggy eyes. And skip our quiet time.
We are tired of the day's toil. We gobble up our food and rush to bed. And skip our quiet time.
What about energy /talents/life? Do I use it for God in its prime?
Or do I wait for retirement?
Giving money is not an alternative excuse for you not to work for His kingdom. Using your life for His glory at its peak is what pleases Him more.
It all comes naturally when I have that attitude of gratitude.

Secondly the instruction is "first" give the Lord. Giving to God should be the first thing that crosses our mind when we receive.
Time - early morning when you are most fresh.
Money - First thing when you salary comes
Life- at your young age.
You will not lose on anything. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added into you.

Thirdly - Later we see the generals and captains  coming to Moses and acknowledging that none of them are missing. And out of their thankfulness they voluntarily give all the gold they captured.
Everything is His. Everything is His gift. Nothing is ours. And when we realize that we are just stewards and not owners, we voluntarily give every bit of it.
Time - we won't restrict our relation with Him to that half an hour. We want to know Him more. We spend more time.
Money - we are not hesitant to give to that brother in need.
Life - whatever stage you are now, wherever you are, our desire is to be spent more for Him. Not to live in a utopian ideology.
Assets (including children) - we do not cling on to them and cherish them for our fantasies. But release them to be used for God.

May God enable us to give Him His share first

Control

Pro:13:3 Those who control their tongue will have a long life Opening your mouth can ruin everything.  Blurting out whatever comes in your mouth is lack of self discipline. Lack of self control. You are a man of emotions. You don't have reigns in control. You are a poor man driven by passion.  James:3:2. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.  James:3:6. And the tongue is a flame of fire.  What comes out of your mouth has power to burn people down, destroy their lives and ruin them, demolish them. Is that what you want? May be on your anger you might want. But it is not God's will. Keep quiet when you need to.   A "I hate you" will do you or other person no good. Winning the argument will never be constructive.  Col:4:6 Let your conversations be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.  Eccl:5:2 Let your words be few.  Eph:4:29 Let everything you sa

Death is not the end - prose

Pro:14:32 But godly have a refuge when they die.  Man can only know (at least as of now), till he dies.  All his assets, all his achievements, all his accolades.  All his griefs, all his failures and all his loneliness.  Is only till he die. At least as far as he knows.  The greatest of the greatest can only say,  'Empty handed I came. Empty handed I go' But here is a man who claims to say Any one who believes in me Will live, even after dying.  That whosoever believes, shall not perish But have eternal life.  There need not be any fear of death if you believe in Jesus.  No uncertainty.  Your loved ones will be taken care of.  They will have His peace.  Believe in the Son of God.  And you will have eternal life (John:3:36)  What do you believe in Jesus?  That He died and rose again for my sin?  Well that is just the beginning.  Believe that He is enough. He is Elshaddai.  He will take care. He is Jehovah Jireh.  He is my fortress. He is my refuge and my strong tower

Very little to eat?

Pro:15:16-17 Better to have little with fear of the Lord Than to have great treasure and inner turmoil A bowl of vegetables with someone you love Is better than steak with someone you hate.  Surplousness is not the thing that gives you satisfaction. Unlike the common idea that runs in the world. Everyone thinks if you have enough, that's it.  But the best dreams are not seen on the softest pillow but more so for a destitute who sleeps on the streets. It is not what you have in your hand, but that which is in your mind that gives you sleep and satiety and satisfaction.  Fearing God or Godliness, having people to love, family to cherish - these are what makes you joyous than a large platter of meat. Even a vegetable stew will make your face cheerful (not belittling the dish), if there is joy in God.  One step further - in the midst of turmoil, you will still be smiling. Even if there is no gruel to drink, the faith that God will take care, your Abba will take care. That s

Onwards and upwards

The path of life leads upwards for the wise They leave the grave behind Pro:15:24 It was C S Lewis in his book, chronicles of Narnia, who describes eternity as - onward and upward! To Narnia and the North.  Always ascending. Always towards the kingdom.  Is it about being blessed, in this earthly kingdom, if you are a child of God? Not at all. It is about life beyond the other side.  Leaving behind the grave. Leaving behind Sheol. Leaving behind the one thing which tends to bind you. Leaving behind the one thing which instills fear.  Not any more. Victory over death and hell has been claimed. Because Jesus, Son of God, Son of Man willfully laid down His life and willfully went to that dreaded place to claim that victory. Amen.  Oh! Death where is your victory Oh! Death where is your sting? 1 Cor:15:55 All defeated. All overcome. For eternity.  No power of hell No scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hands.  This is what wise men would do. This is what wise men are destin

A gentle answer - a prose

A gentle answer deflects answer Pro:15:1 A roaring bull. A gentle answer Try to clap with one hand Jesus could have retorted He had all the right to He could trigger an argument And He would have won too But He kept quiet on the cross Come down if you are God.  He had the temptation to prove But He kept silent Because He had a purpose to do He came for a cause And that cause wouldn't be achieved By winning the argument.  You would be itching to say something Oh! If at all I had said that.  I could have pinned him down Retrospectively. Oh I missed it.  A wise man doesn't blabber Because he knows keeping quiet is wisdom.  But still you can pray for him.  Image credit:  https://testimoniesofhisgoodness.wordpress.com/tag/gentle-answer/

Watching

The Lord is watching everywhere.  Keeping His eye on both evil and good.  Pro:15:3 How does the truth that God is Sovereign affect you? Are you fearful or afraid of being caught? Are you joyful knowing that God is in control? Are you frustrated because you feel you won't be able to enjoy life? Or are you living a life not even bothered by it?  Whatever you feel, the truth remains that He is Sovereign. And the Sovereignty of God means He does everything out of His good pleasure,  for He is good. His nature is goodness. His character is that He is good. And He doesn't change. He is always good.  Only if we trust in this goodness of God, the very attribute of His, imbibed in Him, will we be able to believe in Rom:8:28. We cling on to this verse in desperate times, right? But that becomes true only if we believe in God Himself, who is good.  Image credit:  https://www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/critical-thinking-pseudoscience/not-seeing-eye-eye-eye-visionary

Little with righteousness

Better is little with righteousness Than great income with injustice Pro:16:8 A just balance and scales belong to the Lord.  Pro:16:11 It is an abomination for kings to commit wicked acts.  Pro:16:12 Dishonest gains will give you no peace. An unjust scale or bribe or undue money might give you a fat account balance. But is it worth it?  You will have the most comfiest bed, but if you suffer from insomnia, then what use? You could buy the sweetest Lindt chocolate, but you couldn't even taste it because of diabetes. You could have the most sumptuous meal on your table, but you can't even drink a rice gruel without caution because of hypercholesterolemia. You might have the biggest mansion built, but if there is no love or peace at home, it is rubble.  To walk in God's ways, is to be wise. It is also the means to peace. It doesn't guarantee a trouble free life. But a peace in the midst of raging waves. In contrast to unrest in the midst of surplousness. What do
