The purpose of proverbs is four fold
- To teach people wisdom and discipline.
- To help them understand the insights of the wise
- To teach people to live disciploned and successful lives
- To help them do what is right, just and fair.
Wisdom is the reason why the book, Proverbs is written. And the first proverb in v:7 - Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge.
Not the fear of punishment or God's wrath or judgement. Not to see God as a hard taskmaster waiting to catch you red handed in order to punish you.
But to live a God oriented life. To live a life that pleases God, according to His standards, little by little, better than yesterday. Yearning for His holiness. Living fully submerged in His love. Assured of His salvation. And with bright eternal hope. Completely trusting in Him. With absolute submission.
That is the beginning of wisdom. That is how you learn how to live this life. That is the key to abundant life. Life to the fullest. That is the foundation stone. On which your life can be built. (Not the corner stone)
Otherwise you drag along. Trying to make every ends meet. Holding on by a thin thread. With fear, anxiety, hopelessness.
Without the key, you cannot unlock
Without the foundation, you cannot build.
