Ex:31:1-11
Bezalel was a skilled craftsman having expertise in all kinds of crafts. He was a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver and bronze. He was skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He was a goldsmith, silversmith, carpenter and a gemologist.
Why?
Because v:3 says Have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom.
Oholiab was personally appointed by God to be his assistant. Nothing is specifically told about him nor his skills. May be he was not as skilled as Bezalel. But he was the best assistant.
All your skills, all your talents and all your gifts are God given. Because the Spirit of God is in you. Whatever skill you have, remember it is no matter of pride. It is a God given gift to be used for His name's glory.
Now you might think, you are not gifted in anything. You are not talented enough to be prominent. But be an Oholiab when it is needed to. Be an assistant, a facilitator, a helper when God expects you.
Be willing to play the second fiddle. Choose to be the man behind the stage. But be faithful.
Oholiab though he was not as skilled as the second best craftsman in the whole of Israel. But it is his name that is mentioned in the Bible over them all.
You might either be as talented and skilled as Bezalel or as coarse handed as Oholiab. Remember both are needed for God. Both are appointed by God.
Only be faithful.
Only be available
Be it preaching, singing, leading worship vs sweeping, cleaning, arranging chairs or ushering. God values Bezalel and Oholiab equal.
🙏
ReplyDeleteYes it is equally blessed to serve the Lord behind the scene
ReplyDeleteTrue, because God’s value and reward system is different from that of man.
ReplyDeleteTrue...many times ,I feel I am jack of all trades and master of none, a feeling of not being professionally skilled grips in....this meditation helped me feel the need for me to be faithful
ReplyDeleteMe too. It was during my college days that God taught me this wonderful truth. That it is beautiful to play the second fiddle. It's beautiful to not be in the limelight
DeleteBeautiful thought.. :) I feel there can be instances where a Bezalel will have to be an Oholiab. It becomes a humbling experience and requires a lot of grace to understand that God can use anyone who is available to complete His work. ..
ReplyDeleteThanq Steffi. Unless Bezalel comes down and says that I'm not skilled but for the Lord then there is no use of him as well. Well said
