Re entry of Mephibosheth - 2Sam:16:1-4 & 2Sam:19:24-30.
As David was running away from Jerusalem as Absalom is revolting, Ziba comes to David with donkeys, bread, raisins and wine. Ziba was the one who was entrusted by David to take care of Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan who was crippled since childhood. Ziba tried to outsmart Mephibosheth, in trying to prove that he is disloyal to David. Believing Ziba's false words, David gives away every asset of Mephibosheth to Ziba.
But later on, as David comes back to Jerusalem after Absalom's death, David understands that Mephibosheth was truly innocent and loyal to him, and Ziba had deceived him. Mephibosheth was uneasy and restless because David had to run away. His feet was not cared for, his beard not trimmed or clothes not washed since the day David had to leave Jerusalem.
David realizes he was misled by Ziba, but he confesses that he has already given half of his possessions to Ziba. Mephibosheth replies - Let him have everything, all I want is this, I am glad that you are back.
What is it that we look forward in our relationship with Christ?
What is it that we look forward in our relationship with our fellow believers?
Even if we would be at a loss, regarding material possessions, even if others have taken away things from us or have utilized our love to them, deceiving and trying to outsmart us, do we put our foot down and say, Lord you are enough. Let him take it all. I have you.
You alone are enough for me Lord. Nothing else do I want. Nothing else do I seek.
These material benefits are futile, in comparison to the companionship I have with you Lord
Mephibosheth was not sure whether he would be able to eat daily again from the king's table. He doesn't know whether the king would listen to him at all. Whether he would be angry with him and outrightly reject the chance to prove his innocence or let him speak. He is not sure whether he would get back his possessions. Actually he is not bothered about these at all. All he cares for is that, his king is back.
All I care for, is it to enjoy the love relationship with my Father through the Son. No matter what. God will take care of our every needs. But do I love the giver more than the gifts?
